'Definitely, maybe'? Gallagher brothers tease Oasis reunion

LONDON — Fans of British rock band Oasis buzzed with anticipation Monday as Liam and Noel Gallagher teased that they could be returning to the stage together, 15 years after the band's last performance.

The Britpop band — which spectacularly broke up in 2009 after rising to fame with hit songs "Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back In Anger" and "Champagne Supernova" — could play a series of gigs in London and Manchester next summer according to industry insiders cited by the Sunday Times newspaper.

Rumours included 10 dates being booked at London's Wembley Stadium and a possible headline slot at Glastonbury festival as the brothers reportedly thawed their decade-long feud.

At midnight on Monday, both brothers and the official Oasis account hinted on X that an announcement would be made on Tuesday (August 27) at 8 am (7:00 GMT), posting the same clip with the date and time flickering in the style of the Oasis logo.

The clip teasing the announcement was also shown on screens at the end of Liam's Sunday gig at the Reading music festival, part of the younger brother's "Definitely Maybe" tour.

Liam also replied to a link of the Sunday Times article posted on X with "See you down the front", and in another post on X said, "I never did like that word FORMER".

Formed in 1991 in Manchester, Oasis was credited with reviving Britpop music, keeping fans riveted with the public fights between Liam and Noel and their chart-rivalry with the London-based group Blur.

Sibling tensions came to a head during a spat in Paris during the Rock en Seine festival in 2009, when Liam broke one of Noel's guitars.

The brothers have not played together since the acrimonious split, but both still regularly play their old band's hits to sold-out crowds.

Until now, they had largely communicated in public through taking swipes at each other on social media.

If true, the reunion would take place 30 years after Oasis's 1995 album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?", which received international critical and commercial acclaim.

The brothers have teased at a reconciliation before, with Noel last year saying "never say never" about a reunion.

Communication

By Nathalie Khalaf,
Holistic Counsellor

Standing up to speak in a classroom as a child or in a group as an adult has always

TERRIFIED me. My heart would start beating faster, I’d feel the palms of my hands sweat

and even a certain trembling sensation inside my body.

It took me years to learn how to “get a hold of myself” and relax before addressing the masses (a group larger than 3 people). I attribute that successful “work in progress”, of course, to my healing journey over so many years,.

The chakra system

And since I relate almost everything I write about to the chakra system, this topic shall be no exception! Let me tell you how working on my energy helped me to relax when speaking and feeling good about it too!

Communicating is not just about using your voice as a means to convey a message or the knowledge you have in your brain. It is so much more than vocally sharing cerebral knowledge.

When communication is impactful, it is more like releasing a song that comes out in the form of words because your body and soul are in tune. It is like pressing on certain points in the body as you would when playing a musical instrument.

From the heart and soul

When communication comes through the soul it means it is knowledge digested by your gut and felt by the heart; it is uttered through the mouth and reaches the hearts of others.

My journey to self-healing uncovered so many layers of false and old beliefs, both personal and collective. I grew up not believing in who I was; comparing myself to everyone around me concluding I was not good enough since I was not like others.

I feared standing out, speaking out, making mistakes and being judged and not loved. It may seem like these were issues of self-confidence and fear, but it was a lot more than that.

A journey through the energy points

Let me take you through the four energy points that lead to the cleaning and opening up of the fifth energy point and how it is all connected.

For a person to be well-spoken and heard (from the fifth energy point, the throat chakra) they would need to work on releasing the fears they have about survival and primal needs.

When our survival needs are met, our first energy point (the root chakra) is nourished and balanced making us feel safe and secure. And with our basic needs met we feel good about ourselves, which nourishes our second energy point (the second chakra).

Feeling good

When we do not feel threatened, then the playfulness and joy of life are easily accessible and contribute to our creative flow in a very positive manner. It thus becomes easier to believe in who we are when feeling good about ourselves in our physical body, mentally and emotionally — especially if we find that we think and do things differently.

“When we feel good about ourselves …we naturally cultivate self-love and love for others”

It is at this stage when we are confident in our being that our personality feels free to shine. Here, our selfconfidence and unique personality come out of a balanced and healthy third energy point (the solar plexus chakra) which opens up the energy path to the heart, the centre of our being.

When we feel good about ourselves and enjoy a sense of playfulness, creativity and joy, we naturally cultivate selflove and love for others.

Communicating our desires freely

An open heart centre allows the energy flow to move up to the throat. Here, we feel that we can easily and readily express ourselves, communicating our desires and love with no fear, no guilt, no shame and no holding back.

At this stage, our communication comes from the centre of our being and is more of an emotional exercise than a cerebral one. It is the sharing and speaking through love with no expectations of how the information is received.

That is the difference between someone speaking for the sake of speaking, as a cerebral activity, and someone sharing a part of who they are. The latter immediately creates a connection with the audience, creating loving emotional experiences in those listening.

The difference in communication being that one shares information and the other shares a part of who they are.

Listening to understand

If we haven’t really worked on our own issues then it is true to say that: The biggest communication problem is that we do not listen to understand, but we listen to reply. Unless we clear ourselves of all energy blocks, we will listen from a place of reaction and response instead of truly taking in and absorbing.

Mark Twain said, “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything”. I love this line for the simplicity it offers. How great it feels to always communicate the truth and live freely.

It is liberating for both us and others when we commit to communicating our desires through truth. Sure, the truth may be challenging at times, especially in relationships built on expectations and duty, but that is only if we have expectations and live with the need for duty.

Film legend Delon is buried near his dogs as fans mourn

By - Aug 24,2024 - Last updated at Aug 24,2024

Fans and mourners pay tribute to the late French actor Alain Delon outside the entrance gate of Delon’s property, La Brulerie in Douchy, central France, on Saturday (AFP photo)

DOUCHY, France — Film legend Alain Delon was buried on Saturday in a private funeral attended by his children, relatives and close friends as fans mourned outside the gates of his country estate where he was laid to rest near his beloved dogs.

The 89-year-old star of such classics as “Le Samourai” and “Purple Noon”, who was once described as “Europe’s James Dean”, died on Sunday.

French police had set up roadblocks near the manor in the village of Douchy, with the airspace overhead also closed for the entire weekend.

The 50 or so mourners allowed into the estate’s private chapel had to leave their mobile phones at the door to ensure strict privacy.

Veteran Italian actress Claudia Cardinale, 86, who starred opposite Delon in “The Leopard”, was “too sad” to come, her agent told AFP.

“They ask me to put into words [the grief],” she said after his death, “but the sadness is too intense”.

But Rosalie van Breemen, Delon’s ex-wife and mother of his children Anouchka and Alain-Fabien, was present, sources close to proceedings told AFP.

Fans had left countless floral tributes and cards at the manor gates all week, with around a hundred people gathered there on Saturday to say goodbye.

“I wanted to pay him homage, even from behind the gates, on the day of the funeral, as a symbolic gesture,” Marie-Christine Guibert, a neighbour, told AFP.

“I really had to be here,” said Maxime Ducharme, 28. “I inherited a passion for Delon from my parents.”

Delon’s three children — who were with him when he died — told AFP that they were “extremely touched by the fervour and affection shown by his fans in France and across the world.”

Divisive figure

Since his death, France has been paying homage to Delon, one of the country’s biggest but most divisive stars.

He was one of the last living legends of a golden era of French cinema in the 1960s.

While he had legions of fans around the world, Delon’s relations with women caused controversy. His sons accused him of domestic violence, which Delon denied while admitting to slapping women.

The actor also drew criticism for supporting Jean-Marie Le Pen, co-founder of the far-right National Front, and for his opposition to same-sex relationships.

Feminists were appalled by the lifetime achievement award the Cannes Film Festival gave him in 2019.

Delon lived his later years largely as a recluse, though his personal life kept him in the headlines.

In 2023, his three children filed a complaint against his live-in assistant Hiromi Rollin, accusing her of harassment and threatening behaviour.

The siblings went on to wage a public battle in the media and the courts, arguing over his health, which worsened after a stroke in 2019.

Even in death, he was still making headlines after it emerged that he asked for his favourite dog to be put down and buried with him.

But his longtime friend and fellow 1960s screen icon Brigitte Bardot said the Belgian malinois called Loubo would be spared.

“The family of Alain Delon have confirmed to us that they will take care of him. Loubo will of course not be euthanised,” her foundation said on the X social media platform.

French TV presenter Stephane Bern said Delon’s wish to be buried with his dogs was very him, comparing him to Frederick the Great of Prussia who did the same.

It was a gesture “of majesty and panache”, he said, “very Delon, worthy of a Leopard who had become a misanthrope”.

“I have absolutely no fear of death,” the actor insisted in 2011, posing for photographs outside the tomb where he intended to be buried.

Despite his reputation as an inveterate womaniser both on and off the screen, Delon, a Catholic, said his “mad passion” was for the Virgin Mary.

“She is the woman I love most in the world,” he said, “the one I talk most to.”

Jennifer Lopez files to divorce Ben Affleck-- US media

By - Aug 22,2024 - Last updated at Aug 22,2024

LOS ANGELES, United States —
Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, US media reported on Tuesday, two years after the Hollywood power couple officially gave love a second chance by tying the knot.

The pair, who were nicknamed "Bennifer" when they first dated in the frenzied tabloid celebrity days of the early 2000s, had rekindled their relationship almost two decades later.

But Lopez on Tuesday filed divorce papers at a Los Angeles court, Hollywood trade outlet Variety and celebrity gossip website TMZ said.

A representative for Lopez declined to comment. Affleck's publicist did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.

It was the fourth marriage for pop singer-turned-actress Lopez, 55, and the second for Oscar-winning movie star and director Affleck, 52.

The pair first met in 2002 on the set of the widely panned movie "Gigli".

They became a media sensation as they started dating and announced their engagement.

But they postponed their planned 2003 nuptials, and announced their relationship was over in early 2004.

"Bennifer" set the internet alight again in 2021 when photos of them together again began circulating.

"It's a beautiful love story that we got a second chance," Lopez said in an interview around that time.

Lopez and Affleck announced their engagement in April 2022, and the A-list lovebirds wed in Las Vegas in July.

They made it official again the following month in a lavish ceremony at the "Good Will Hunting" star's 87-acre (35-hectare) estate in the southeastern US state of Georgia.

Among the Hollywood types in attendance at the three-day affair were longtime Affleck pal Matt Damon and director Kevin Smith.

The couple reportedly bought a $60 million home together in Los Angeles last year.

But rumors of marital troubles emerged in the entertainment press and on social media earlier this year.

Fans noted that Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday without her husband last month, and TMZ said they had sold their joint home, with Affleck moving into a luxury bachelor pad.

People magazine said relations became strained because of their different approaches to celebrity.

"She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world," the magazine quoted an unnamed source saying.

"He is more introspective and private. This has been difficult day-to-day."

Divorce papers listed the couple's date of separation as April 26, 2024, according to TMZ, which said the pair are no longer on speaking terms.

Lopez was previously married to actor Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme.

Affleck was married to actress Jennifer Garner and they are the parents of Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.

Cosplay and queues at Germany gamers gathering

COLOGNE, Germany — Armour-clad warriors mixed with cosplaying Super Marios and monster hunters on Thursday, as gamers braved hours of queuing at the sector's biggest trade show, Gamescom in Germany's Cologne.

"We'll have to run," said Mark Nass, a 20-year-old German who queued from 6:30 am outside the glass and steel Koelnmesse convention centre.

Nass was among many aiming to be first in line to play "Monster Hunter Wilds", one of the most popular games at the annual Gamescom gathering.

The event serves as a celebration for fans, who get sneak peaks at new releases and chats with developers while spending time with like-minded folk.

But it is also a massive deal for the industry.

Although Microsoft is dominating this year's event, hundreds of smaller companies are battling for a share of the attention.

'A bit like Cannes'

Marina Diez from German independent studio BTF was showing off the game "The Berlin Apartment".

"We're showcasing it in a big event for the first time, before releasing the next year," she told AFP.

She said getting opinions from players at the conference was vital to feed into the game design.

The stakes are getting higher for smaller studios, who rely on making deals with publishers to get their games out into the world.

But publishers are also struggling as major financial backers shift their focus to AI and other sectors.

Thousands have been laid off and many studios have shut down.

Gamescom gives creators a chance to do deals and secure vital funding.

"It's a bit like the Cannes Film Festival in terms of business," said David Rabineau, director of the Parisian independent studio Homo Ludens.

Mario vs Poppy

Crowds swelled on the conference floor during on  Thursday, the first day the public were allowed into the event, which runs until Sunday.

Shouts and applause erupted periodically from behind high partitions separating the stands from the alleyways, as attendees got to see trailers and snippets of gameplay.

Long queues formed in front of the "Assassin's Creed Shadows" stand to get these invaluable titbits.

At other stands, attendees were able to play new games -- some that have not been released yet.

Waiting patiently in the queue for "Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO", 25-year-old German Lars was decked out in a red cap, blue overalls and a fake moustache.

"Everyone likes Mario! I like him because I used to play it when I was a kid," he said.

But at an event expected to attract 370,000 attendees, some players were inevitably going to miss out on their number one game.

"I hoped to play 'Monster Hunter Wilds' but it was already full," said Ype, a 28-year-old Dutchman decked out as Poppy from "League of Legends", with pointed ears, blue face and two-metre-long hammer.

But he was not going to let that disappointment deter him.

"It's cool to discover new games and meet people," he said, before heading elsewhere to test the latest "Warhammer" release.

Nintendo museum to open in Japan on October 2

By - Aug 21,2024 - Last updated at Aug 21,2024

TOKYO — Japan’s Nintendo said on Tuesday it will open its much-awaited first museum on October 2 featuring vintage video games and an interactive shoot-em-up with “Super Mario” characters.

The museum in Kyoto’s Uji city is located inside a renovated old factory built in 1969, where the gaming giant began life making Western-style and Japanese playing cards and later repaired consoles.

The company on Tuesday also released a video of Shigeru Miyamoto, the renowned creator of “Super Mario Bros” and other famous games, giving a sneak preview of what’s inside.

“The Nintendo Museum is a place where visitors can learn about Nintendo’s commitment to manufacturing that places importance on play and originality,” Miyamoto said in the clip.

Along with the shooting game and some of the firm’s first consoles, exhibits include a giant controller that two people operate and another featuring ancient Japanese poems.

The company first announced plans for the museum in 2021, part of efforts to widen its revenue stream, and it was originally meant to open earlier this year.

Super Nintendo World, the company’s first theme park, opened in March 2021 after months of pandemic delays.

Part of the Universal Studios Japan complex in Osaka, it features a Mario Kart ride with a real-life Bowser’s Castle.

Nintendo began life in 1889 as a manufacturer of Japanese “hanafuda” cards and launched its first home video game machines, known as TV Game 15 and TV Game 6, in 1977.

The Super Mario Bros. games were launched in 1985, two years after the company began selling its Nintendo Entertainment System console.

Tickets for the museum for October and November went on sale on Tuesday costing 3,300 yen ($22.60) for adults and less for children.

New ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Borderlands 4’ games announced at leading show

COLOGNE, Germany — The release dates for new episodes of the “Call of Duty” and “Borderlands” video games were announced on Tuesday at the opening of the Gamescom showcase.

The announcements set the scene for the leading international video game show that opens to the public in Cologne on Thursday for four days and is expected to draw more than 350,000 visitors.

The launch of the Borderlands 4 game in 2025 was one of the surprises of the opening night show. The games producers promised that players would “blast their way through hordes of enemies” in the latest version of the game that was adapted for cinema this year.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” will be released on October 25. The latest in the series is set in the 1990s with a security team on a mission to target a senator and gain access to a top-secret site in Washington.

“Deadpool” film maker Tim Miller announced that his new “Secret Level” series based on several video games would be released on Amazon Prime in December.

“It is our love letter to games,” he said.

Another industry veteran Peter Molyneux said his latest project would be “Masters of Albion”.

Molyneux made Populous in 1989 and Black and White in 2001 but has been more low-key in recent years with several projects cancelled.

Swedish firm Machinegames said that “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” will be released on December 9. First announced for Xbox, the game will also come out on Playstation 5 next year, the company said.

Social media platform X to shutter local operations in Brazil

WASHINGTON — Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, will shutter its local operations in Brazil following a bitter legal tussle over the platform’s rights and responsibilities, owner Elon Musk said on Saturday.

The service will remain available to Brazilian users.

The closure was the apparent culmination of an ongoing legal battle between Musk and Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who has said he is trying to fight the spread of dangerous disinformation online.

A post Saturday from X’s Global Government Affairs department said Moraes had “threatened our legal representative in Brazil with arrest if we do not comply with his censorship orders”.

It said the office closure was necessary “to protect the safety of our staff”, adding, “the responsibility lies solely with Alexandre de Moraes”.

Moraes previously had ordered the suspension of several Twitter accounts suspected of spreading disinformation, including those of supporters of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro, who tried to discredit the voting system in the 2022 presidential election, which he lost.

“Freedom of expression doesn’t mean freedom of aggression,” Moraes has said. “It doesn’t mean the freedom to defend tyranny.”

Moraes has spearheaded the battle against disinformation in South America’s largest nation.

He presides over Brazil’s Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), and last year it declared Bolsonaro ineligible to run again for office, saying he had disseminated false information about the electoral system.

Musk and other critics have said Moraes is part of a sweeping crackdown on free speech.

The CEO said on Saturday that had X complied with Moraes’s orders, “there was no way we could explain our actions without being ashamed”.

In April, Moraes ordered an investigation of Musk. An order seen by AFP showed Moraes accusing Musk of “criminal instrumentalisation” of the platform.

Moraes said Musk had reactivated banned accounts, and he threatened the billionaire with a fine of about $20,000 for each instance.

“Social networks are not lands without laws,” Moraes wrote.

Musk responded that while X might lose its Brazilian revenue, “principles matter more than profit”.

Alain Delon, France’s flawed screen god

PARIS — Actor Alain Delon — who has died on Sunday aged 89 — was France’s greatest screen seducer.

To some he was the sexiest man of the 20th century who played the impeccably tailored, ice-cold killers popularised by 1960s New Wave films to perfection.

To others, the man who often referred to himself in the third person and admitted to having slapped a woman, was an egotistical chauvinist, with feminists appalled by the lifetime achievement award the Cannes film festival gave him in 2019.

His millions of fans, from France to Japan — where Delon was adored as an idol of male beauty — were prepared to overlook his failings.

The whiff of sulphur and his angelic face also proved an irresistible combination to a long line of glamorous actresses who fell for him.

In a note to Delon on his 80th birthday, one of his oldest friends, fellow 1960s icon Brigitte Bardot, called him “an eagle with two heads... the best and the worst”.

Delon’s legend was launched in 1960, playing pretty boy killers and mysterious schemers in “Purple Noon” — later remade as “The Talented Mr Ripley” — and Luchino Visconti’s “The Leopard”.

He then set the template for one of Hollywood’s favourite tropes — the mysterious, cerebral hitman — with his staggering performance as the silent killer in Jean-Pierre Melville’s “Le Samurai” (1967).

Directors from Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino to Hong Kong’s John Woo all acknowledge a debt to the inner life Delon gave his stylish killer.

And then there were the affairs. Many ended in heartbreak and tragedy, including in the case of his long and stormy relationship with the German actress Romy Schneider with whom he starred in “The Swimming Pool” (1969).

“The love of my life” — as Delon repeatedly called her — was found dead at her home at the age of 43, less than a year after her son was killed in a freak accident, impaled on a railing. The official cause of death was cardiac arrest.

While living his “great passion” with Schneider, Delon reportedly fathered a son with her compatriot, the Velvet Underground singer Nico.

He always denied the child was his, yet Delon’s mother brought up the boy, Ari Boulogne, who bore a striking resemblance to Delon and insisted he was his son until his death in 2023, aged 60, from a heroin overdose.

“I was programmed for success, not happiness. The two don’t go together,” said Delon, who claimed to have always defined himself through women.

“It’s in them, through the look in the eyes of my first wife, Nathalie, from Romy, [actress and longtime partner] Mireille [Darc], or the mother of my children [Rosalie van Breemen], that I drew the motivation to be who I am,” he said.

Yet, two of his sons accused him of domestic violence, with one saying Delon had broken eight of his mother’s ribs and her nose twice.

Delon denied this but admitted to slapping women who attacked him.

Traumatic childhood

His own childhood was a troubled affair, put into a children’s home for a time by his mother.

As a teenage soldier he fought to keep Indochina French before being dishonourably discharged for theft.

Despite the mixed emotions he generated, film historian Jean-Michel Frodon said no other French male actor in the last half century “had the same screen presence”.

French actor Vincent Lindon, who won the best actor award at Cannes in 2015, described Delon’s looks as “ hypnotising”.

“You can look at photos of him for hours and hours,” he told AFP.

But Delon never really made the transition to Hollywood despite his huge following in China and Japan, which would later drive sales of his perfume brand.

Links with far-right

His complicated private life kept him in the headlines.

He didn’t just play baddies, he consorted with them. He was arrested in 1968 after his former bodyguard, Stevan Markovic, was found with a bullet in his neck.

Police suspected Markovic of having an affair with Delon’s wife Nathalie in a case that captured the nation’s attention.

Before it was finally dropped, unsolved, a Corsican gangster Francois Marcantoni  friend of Delon’s spent a year in prison charged with the killing before being released.

Delon effectively quit film around 2000, appearing mostly on television afterwards though he was tempted back to the big screen to play Julius Caesar in an Asterix film in 2008.

In later years, he became a polarising figure over his support for the far-right National Front (later renamed the National Rally), whose founder, Jean-Marie Le Pen, he called a “dear friend”.

He stirred further controversy in 2016 by jumping to the defence of ex-minister Nadine Morano who declared France a “white race country” that she didn’t want to see become Muslim.

“She has the balls to say it,” Delon said. “I take off my hat to her. I don’t give a shit, I say what I think and I will continue to do so.”

In June 2019, he suffered a debilitating stroke and rarely left his estate in the central Loiret region of France thereafter.

As he became weaker, his three children engaged in open warfare over his estate.

The three — Anthony, Anouchka and Alain-Fabien — first filed a complaint accusing his Japanese companion and former carer, Hiromi Rollin, of trying to take advantage of their father.

When that case was thrown out they turned on each other in January 2024, with Anthony accusing Anouchka, the favourite child, of preying on their “weakened” father.

Delon said through a lawyer he would report his son to the police.

Beat the Heat: Your ultimate guide to a cool summer!

Dr Said Qabbaah
Medical Writer & Public Health Expert

Let’s embrace the heat and long sultry summer days by putting our health first. Following simple yet effective tips, you can avoid possible negative health effects during this season. Here are seven practical tips to stay cool, fit and vibrant this summer.

1. Hydration is key:

Staying hydrated is a top priority. Due to the markedly increased demand for fluid intake during the long summer days, failing to do so properly can quickly result in dehydration.

This often leads to a feeling of fatigue, dizziness and confusion, amongst other signs and symptoms, which may lead to serious health complications if not adequately addressed.

To prevent that from happening, it is essential to ensure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you are engaging in outdoor activities which increase your exposure to direct sunlight.

In addition to water, you can incorporate a lot of waterrich foods, such as watermelon, cucumber and leafy greens, in your diet for added benefit and to maintain optimal hydration levels.

2. Embracing the outdoors:

Try to take advantage of the warm weather and prolonged daylight by engaging in healthy outdoor activities. Whether it is jogging, cycling or going for long walks, besides the numerous physical and mental health benefits, outdoor exercise allows you to soak up vitamin D while enjoying nature’s beauty and the pleasant summer ambiance.

However, it is important to remember not to overdo it, as the body can quickly overheat and lead to serious health conditions such as a heat stroke, which can happen due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, particularly when combined with dehydration.

Also, you may face the risk of a sunburn as a result of extended exposure to direct sunlight. Therefore, it is important to remember to wear comfortable, breathable clothing in order to stay cool, while maintaining good hydration.

3. Balanced nutrition:

Summer holidays often come with tempting treats and indulgent meals, but maintaining a healthy balanced diet is crucial for overall health and wellbeing. You can practice mindful eating by avoiding excessive snacking and overindulgence and by listening to your body’s signals and cues.

In general, a good diet should consist of 50% fruit and vegetables, 25% whole grain and 25% protein, with emphasis on variety and quality. You can opt for lighter, refreshing options, such as salads, grilled fish, or chicken for example, in addition to drinking plenty of non-sugary fluids and limiting processed foods, and those high in salt, sugar, saturated and trans fats.

4. Sun safety:

While basking in the sun can be enjoyable, it is essential to practice sun safety to prevent sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer. You must apply sunscreen generously and frequently to any exposed skin to protect it from the harmful UV rays using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high sun protection factor.

It is important to avoid direct sunlight during the peak sun hours, typically between 10am and 16:00 and to wear protective clothing such as hats, sunglasses and light long-sleeved shirts

5. Staying cool:

You can beat the summer heat by staying cool indoors for as long as possible during the hottest part of the day.

Use fans or air conditioning to maintain a pleasant temperature indoors, and take cool showers to cool down quickly and help you feel relaxed. If you need to spend time outdoors, try to stay in shaded areas, while trying to frequently cool yourself and avoiding strenuous activities during the peak heat of the day

6. Prioritise rest and relaxation:

Amidst the hustle and bustle of summer activities, do not forget to prioritise self-care, rest and relaxation.

Adequate sleep is crucial for overall health and wellbeing, by aiming for 7 - 9 hours of good quality sleep each night. It is also important to set aside time for activities that help you to relax such as reading, meditating, or even a quiet walk in nature to unwind and to recharge your body and mind.

7. Staying active indoors:

During the days when the heat is unbearable or air quality is poor, it is still possible to keep fit and healthy while staying indoors. Opt for indoor activities to stay active, such as joining a fitness class at the local gym, practicing yoga or Pilates at home, or engaging in indoor bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges and push-ups.

Incorporating indoor workouts into your routine ensures you can maintain your fitness goals regardless of outdoor conditions The summer holiday season offers countless opportunities for beautiful experiences, memorable times and special moments. By prioritising health and well-being, you can make the most out of this vibrant season positively and safely.

Remember to nourish your body and mind with a nutritious diet and good hydration while safely embracing the numerous benefits of the outdoors and prioritising your wellness, rest and relaxation.

With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a pleasant and rejuvenating summer holiday season while staying cool, fit and healthy.
