Jordan Gate project to be completed in Q3 2023 — official source

AMMAN — After nearly 15 years of intermittent construction, an official source revealed that the first phase of the Jordan Gate project in Amman will be completed in the third quarter of 2023.
The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced the resumption of the project in February 2022 after investing in the company that owns the project, acquiring 31 per cent of shares.
The anonymous GAM source told The Jordan Times that the project is divided into three phases.
The project, under construction since 2005, has been impeded by financial and technical difficulties, according to the source.
The project involves the construction of two 220-metre towers, with a total area of 200,000 square metres. Although the towers require renovation, the project is nearly 70 per cent complete, the source added.
Residents near the project, which is located in the Sixth Circle area, told The Jordan Times that they are “sick of false hope and ongoing delays”.
Haya Hariri, who lives next to the towers, said that although GAM has announced the resumption of the project many times, nothing has happened.
“Every couple of years, GAM re-launches the Jordan Gate project; this has been going for almost 15 years,” Hariri added.
Ola Salos, another affected resident, said that the community has lived near a construction site for over 17 years.
Economist Khaled Samaleh told The Jordan Times that construction delays have lent controversy to the project.
However, Samaleh also noted that project’s reconstruction could positively impact the local economy by creating diverse new job opportunities, thus absorbing high unemployment rates. “Stakeholders are urged to hire local contractors for the project,” Salameh added.
