Wednesday deadline to quit Irbid’s by-elections

AMMAN — Wednesday is the last day on which candidates in Irbid’s 2nd district by-elections can withdraw from the scheduled by-elections, the Independent Elections Commission announced.
Article 18 of the Elections Law stipulates that candidates can drop out from the race 10 days before the elections date, which is slated in Irbid for November 29 after a seat was left vacant due to the death of MP Mohammad Khasawneh.

The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Wednesday said that it not recorded any violations concerning the use of political money in the by-election for Irbid’s Second District, adding that it has not received any citizen complaint in this regard, either.
The Independent Elections Commission board on Monday set November 29 as the date for by-elections to fill the Irbid 2nd District seat in the Lower House.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Thursday announced that it accepted 15 candidacy applications and rejected four others submitted by candidiates wishing to run in the by-elections for Irbid’s 2nd District to fill the seat left vacant by MP Mohammad Khasawneh, who passed away on September 23.
