Water Ministry meeting discusses COVID mitigation efforts

AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Motasem Saidan on Tuesday held an urgent meeting with the ministry’s board of trustees, the Water Authority of Jordan and the Jordan Valley authority to discuss means to mitigate the repercussions of COVID-19, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The meeting was arranged in response to His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives during his virtual participation in the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Petra reported.
Saidan asked the board of trustees to lay down a comprehensive plan to continue providing water services to vulnerable groups, refugees and families below the poverty line.
In regard to climate change, the minister stressed the importance of rainwater harvesting for irrigation and its role in fighting environmental degradation.
