'Wanted man detained, confesses to stealing 28 vehicles'

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel have detained a suspect, who confessed to stealing 28 vehicles in different areas of the capital with the help of accomplices and retrieved nine of them, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre announced on Thursday.
The suspect, whose criminal record lists 66 cases, is wanted for committing crimes that include car theft, drugs and illegal possession of weapons, the PSD statement said.
A special CID team that was formed to search for the suspect located his position in the southern Badia where he was arrested in possession of a stolen car with fake licence plates, the statement added.
According to the PSD, the team also seized a counterfeit ID card with his photo and the name of another man, in addition to an automatic weapon, a pistol, ammunition, hashish and other drugs.
The suspect also confessed to several other crimes related to the possession of weapons, drugs and participating in illegal gatherings, the PSD statement said.
The suspect is still being questioned and police are working to find his accomplices and retrieve the rest of stolen items, the statement added.
In addition, Mafraq CID staff has arrested a “dangerous man”, who is wanted for 33 crimes, in a farm in Irbid.
The suspect, who is being questioned, was detained during a raid without any incidents, according to the PSD.
