AMMAN — The Senate’s Palestine Committee on Tuesday discussed the latest developments of the Palestinian cause, recommending the approval of Jordan's accession to the case filed by the Republic of South Africa at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

Senator Naif Qadi, head of the panel, stressed that the Kingdom’s leadership, army and people stand with all its capabilities to prevent Israel's attempts to forcefully displace Palestinians, noting that this act is deemed a war crime that adds to Israel's crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

The Jordanian position advocates halting the aggression and dealing with Gaza within a comprehensive plan based on the unity of Gaza with the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as calls for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state within the  June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the two-state solution and specific timetables, in coordination with the Palestinians and Arab countries, he said.

Qadi also emphasised that any resolution to the Palestinian issue must exclude military and security options, noting that Jordan rejects any scenario of Israel reoccupying any part of Gaza or establishing buffer zones.

The committee stressed the need to address the practices of extremist settlers and the repeated escalations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in order to prevent the growing of tensions in the region, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The panel members also commended the active role of Jordanian diplomacy, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, in unifying Arab positions and supporting Palestinians fair demands.
