AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, the president of the Jordanian National Forum for Women’s (JNFW) higher council, on Monday inaugurated a branch of the forum in Baqaa refugee camp, which houses a sewing workshop and a training hall.
The new branch is expected to serve some 500 women from the local community, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Princess Basma expressed her hope that the branch will provide a chance to enhance the forum’s activities in serving women in the area, by providing them with the training necessary for their empowerment.
The princess noted that the branch was a result of cooperation with the Yarmouk Al Baqaa Club, which donated a special facility for the branch.
JNFW Secretary General Salam Husban said that the branch will attract many young people, which will “enhance their contribution and loyalty”, noting that the forum, which was established in 1995 upon an initiative by Princess Basma, has now spread across the Kingdom.
Khaled Jamal, president of the club, voiced the club’s keenness to support activities which empower women in Baqaa, praising the forum’s role in helping Jordanian women to achieve many successes.
Princess Basma also opened a charity bazaar organised by local women, which included handicrafts and accessories.
She also distributed prizes for winners of the first “Arab orphan song contest”.
