JOHUD serves as ‘home for all young people’ — Princess Basma

AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma on Saturday met with the heads and members of community committees for youth and women representing the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) in Aqaba, Tafileh, Maan and Shobak, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

During the meeting, held at the Princess Basma Centre for Development in Aqaba, the princess discussed the committees’ initiatives and voiced her pride in Jordanian youth and their innovative ideas, expressing appreciation of their leading role to serve their communities and country. 

She said that JOHUD, through its 51 branches, represents a home for all young people and ensures providing them with opportunities of success and excellence. 

The committees implement activities and programmes to serve the community, especially in matters of enabling women and on issues of youth and childhood.

The initiatives of the committees are seen as tools to boost social participation in decision making and enhancing decentralisation, Petra said. 

For their part, the heads of committees showcased their work with local communities through the “My Journey Towards Change” project, which is going to be adopted as a method of work in JOHUD’s centres, Petra reported, adding that they also presented the initiatives they adopted, which mainly focused on boosting students’ scores and encouraging women to work from home and market their products. 

The initiatives also focused on raising awareness of the dangers of narcotics and cybercrime and training on radio shows as well as managing small enterprises. 

On Thursday, Princess Basma, who is the president of the Jordanian National Forum for Women’s (JNFW) higher council, inaugurated special chambers that enable divorced couples to meet their children within a proper family environment at the JNFW branch in Aqaba, Petra reported on Friday. 

During the inauguration ceremony, Princess Basma commended the role of the JNFW in serving Jordanian women and their legal causes, calling for raising the awareness of mothers in particular and women in general of their rights. 

She also called for working on achieving harmony between couples to ensure the stability of families and better futures for their children. 

The chamber is part of the “My House is my Childhood’s Right” project, implemented to empower women and is funded by the US-Middle East Partnership Initiative to provide a safe environment for divorced couples to meet their children.
