AMMAN —The Higher Population Council (HPC) on Tuesday honoured the participants in the vocational training of the youth leaders project dubbed "Shabab Al Fursa", the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ceremony, held under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma, was attended by the Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury and HPC officials.

Organised by USAID's Jordan Communication, Advocacy and Policy (JCAP), the programme trained 50 males and females across the Kingdom on population-related issues, aiming to enable them to take part in national efforts towards the investment in demographic opportunities as well as planning and executing entrepreneurial projects within their communities.

HPC Secretary General Maysoon Zoubi said that the programme is in line with His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, which stress the importance of the youth's role in enhancing the present and building the future. She noted the importance of investing in youth through education and training to enable them to face challenges with increased awareness.

HPC programme manager Sawsan Daajah and JCAP consultant Muna Abduljawad displayed the phases and mechanisms of the programme as well as the participants' entrepreneurial projects which covered fields including demographic growth, women empowerment, unemployment, business administration, water and energy.

During the programme, participants received training on leadership skills and were introduced to topics such as the "demographic opportunity", planning and marketing skills, creative thinking, social and entrepreneurial project design and financial planning, among others.

They were part of youth entrepreneurial organisations including the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, Haqiq Initiative — Crown Prince Institution, All Youth Jordan Commission, Ministry of Youth, El Hassan Youth Award, and Generations for Peace.

Princess Basma handed over certificates to the participants, in the presence of the president of the National Centre for Human Resources Development Abdullah Ababneh, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry secretary General Mahmoud Hadid, and representatives from USAID.
