AMMAN — The Higher Population Council (HPC) on Saturday announced that it will activate the flexible work programme and that it has launched the national strategy of population media.

The HPC also said that it is preparing studies on the demographic factors of the Syrians in Jordan, a Planning Ministry statement to The Jordan Times said.

Chairing a meeting of the council, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury stressed the importance of cooperation among the national institutions to deal with the demographic issues and polices, implement the council’s projects, and create a suitable environment to improve the social and economic situation of the society, a planning ministry statement said.

Fakhoury, who is also the HPC’s chairman,  said the council has implemented a training programme for journalists in cooperation with the Jordan Media Institute and the support of Tawasul Programme, adding that the council has finalised producing a video on the impact of population growth on development sectors in the Kingdom.

Fakhoury said that council has begun a programme on the integration of demographic indicators in development planning on the level of governorates as part of the decentralisation project.

Following up on the recommendations of the 18th meeting of Arab population councils last year in Jordan, Fakhoury said that Jordan has prepared the national report of tracking progress in Cairo Declaration on Population and Development.

He said that the council is currently preparing a national plan for calculating the indicators of sustainable development goals related to the programme of population and development.

For her part, HPC Secretary General Maisoon Zu’bi said that “the population media aims to support the national efforts targeting the investment of population opportunities”.

Zu’bi noted that HPC will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Labour Ministry and the USAID to activate the flexible work programme.
