AMMAN — The Jordan Bar Association (JBA) on Tuesday expressed its support for a lawyer whose vehicle was burnt in Jabal Amman by unknown perpetrators earlier in the day.
The vehicle, belonging to lawyer Mohammad Amer, was set ablaze at around 3am on Tuesday.
“This is an act of terrorism and a direct threat to one of our lawyers,” JBA President Samir Khirfan told The Jordan Times.
“We are following up closely with authorities and have urged them to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Khirfan said.
Amer told The Jordan Times that he “was expecting this attack because he was threatened by some individuals in the past”.
“I won a high profile case recently and as a result received a death threat, and now my car was burnt.”
Amer said he had notified the JBA and the police “who are following up on the incident”.
Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said police are investigating the arson attack.
“We received a complaint that a vehicle was burnt in Jabal Amman and are currently investigating the incident,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
The PSD’s crime lab personnel were dispatched to the area to examine the vehicle and its surroundings, according to the police official.
