AMMAN — The Jordan Bar Association (JBA) on Sunday expressed its support for a lawyer who was attacked and robbed over the weekend.
Two hooded men reportedly attacked the lawyer on Saturday and stole JD4,000 in cash and some jewellery, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement.
“We learnt that the two suspects had some feuds with the lawyer over a case he was handling for them and it seems that they wanted to take revenge,” JBA President Samir Khirfan told The Jordan Times on Sunday.
Khirfan said the lawyer was in good condition and the association was following up on the case with the police.
On Saturday, the police announced that they arrested one suspect while he was attempting to sell a watch in a shop near the lawyer’s office in Shmeisani after the theft was reported.
The PSD’s Criminal Investigation Department personnel had dispatched several patrol units near shops that buy precious items such as jewellery and watches in search of the culprit who had hit the lawyer and robbed him under gun threat, according to the PSD.
In police custody, the suspect confessed to breaking into the lawyer’s office with the help of an accomplice, beating him, and stealing the money and the watch, said the PSD statement.
Police have retrieved the stolen items and are still investigating the case in preparation for referring it to court, the PSD said.
