PM reiterates Jordan, EU’s ‘deep-rooted’ partnership

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Monday received European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Várhelyi and an accompanying delegation.
Khasawneh emphasised the “deep-rooted” partnership between Jordan and the EU, expressing keenness on enhancing cooperation, notably in the economic and investment fields.
During a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Planning Minister Nasser Shraideh, the premier reviewed the government’s economic priorities programme and the challenges facing the country, notably the impacts of the pandemic and the challenges relating to hosting refugees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Várhelyi, during the meeting, emphasised the importance of the Kingdom’s role in pushing regional security and stability efforts, stressing the EU’s support for Jordan to overcome economic challenges and attract foreign investments.
Praising the Kingdom’s refugee-hosting efforts, the commissioner reiterated the EU’s ongoing support to help Jordan shoulder the pressures and continue offering services for refugees.
Talks during the meeting also went over the latest regional developments, notably finding a fair and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian cause and a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
