AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh on Monday emphasised the “deep-rooted” and strategic nature of Jordanian-Egyptian relations.

During a meeting with an Egyptian media delegation,  Khasawneh drew attention to both leaderships’ keenness on bolstering cooperation and maintaining coordination over regional and international issues to serve the interests of the two countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He also highlighted the two counties’ diplomatic efforts to assist the Palestinians in meeting their legitimate rights to a full Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 lines, in accordance with the two-state solution and in line with legitimate resolutions and accredited references to achieve a comprehensive and fair peace in the region.

He also referred to the efforts put into strengthening bilateral economic relations, as well as those made to enhance Jordanian-Egyptian-Iraqi cooperation, stressing that trilateral cooperation aims to strengthen economic cooperation among the three countries in order to achieve economic and political integration.

The trilateral cooperation mechanism is open to those who wish to join the three countries, the premier added.

He also referred to the Jordanian-UAE-Egyptian Industrial Partnership, noting that the door is also open for other Arab countries to join the initiative.

Khasawneh praised Egypt’s “distinguished” efforts in the field of investment, notably in the establishment of mega projects, including the new administrative city and the upgrading of the land transport network, pointing out that Jordan looks forward to benefiting from Egyptian experience, especially in establishing a new city that accommodates the population growth in Amman and Zarqa.

The guest delegation went over the volume of Jordanian-Egyptian economic cooperation, the mechanism of trilateral cooperation between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq, as well as the agenda of the Egypt-hosted El Alamein summit, which was held last week.

They also lauded the Kingdom’s efforts in defending Arab issues, as well as Jordan’s measures towards political, economic, and administrative modernisation.

Talks also tackled Arab countries’ common challenges, foremost of which are unemployment and poverty, rising prices, and the impacts of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
