AMMAN — The Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre said four gunmen in a vehicle fired at a patrol unit in southern Amman on Tuesday night, prompting the police to return fire.
The gunfire exchange, which took place near a farm “where outlaws hide”, ended with the police controlling the situation and arresting the four suspects, according to a PSD statement.
Two of the arrested were injured in the shooting and sent to hospital, where one of them died.
The other man received injuries in his foot, and confessed, in preliminary questioning, to shooting himself.
The suspects are either wanted or have criminal records, the PSD said. A search of the vehicle, which has stolen licence plates, yielded two guns and some ammunition, the PSD said, adding that an investigation is under way.
