Majority of complaints over public services filed against 7 agencies — report

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality, the ministries of education, health and municipal affairs, the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology, the Water Authority of Jordan and the Social Security Corporation continued to receive the largest share of complaints against the quality of public services, according to an official report.

Services offered by these agencies registered the highest number of complaints for the third consecutive quarter of the year, revealed the report, which was prepared by the Ministry of Public Sector Development on complaints lodged by citizens against the quality of services in public departments between July and September. 

Public Sector Development Minister Khleef Al Khawaldeh said the report was referred to the Prime Ministry and circulated to the concerned public sector organisations to address the complaints.

In a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times on Monday, Khawaldeh noted that 63 per cent of the total 579 complaints were against the seven agencies, urging the public to lodge complaints with a special unit at the Public Sector Development Ministry by calling 065008080 or by filling out a form on the ministry's website (www.mopsd.gov.jo). 

Complaints were filed against 46 government institutions, and 39 per cent of them were lodged by Amman residents, followed by Irbid and Zarqa, he added. 

Aqaba residents had the least, with only seven complaints made by residents of the port city, according to the minister. 

Most of the complaints were related to recruitment, quality of curricula, water supply disruptions, damage to water networks and uncollected piles of garbage. 

Several grievances were related to employers' evasion of registering workers under the umbrella of the Social Security Corporation, according to the report, which said that people also criticised bureaucratic measures and complained that some employees do not abide by official working hours.
