Report of complaints against gov’t services referred to Prime Ministry

AMMAN – The Ministry of Public Sector Development has prepared a detailed report on complaints lodged by citizens against the quality of services of government agencies during the first quarter of this year. 

Public Sector Development Minister Khleef Al Khawaldeh said in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times Monday that the report was referred to the Prime Ministry and sent to the concerned public sector organisations to address the complaints. 

The report will help improve the central system to receive citizens’ complaints and enable concerned agencies to identify gaps and flaws in their services in a bid to address them, Khawaldeh said, adding the report will also enforce performance accountability. 

According to the report, 443 complaints were lodged against the level of services provided by 48 government agencies. 

Sixty-eight per cent of these complaints were against 10 entities: the Education Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Greater Amman Municipality, the Municipal Affairs Ministry, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, the Energy and Mineral Regulatory Commission, the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology, the Water Authority of Jordan, the Income and Sales Tax Department and the Social Security Corporation.

According to Khawaldeh, 45 per cent of the complaints were made by Amman residents followed by Irbid and Zarqa.

Most of the complaints were related to shortages of teachers, water supply disruptions, damages to water networks, violations related to fuel meters, fuel quality at gas stations, and shortages in medical staff and equipment. 

Other complaints included uncooperative employees at some government agencies and bureaucracy. 

In some cases, citizens complained that some employees do not abide by official working hours, Khawaldeh said, indicating that the report included complaints related to a lack of street lighting, uncollected garbage and power cuts.
