AMMAN — The Ministry of Public Sector Development on Wednesday said that a total of 537 complaints were lodged against the quality of services offered by 47 government entities during the second quarter of this year.

In a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times, the ministry said the report has been referred to Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, who sent it to the concerned agencies to address the complaints and improve their services.

Minister of Public Sector Development Khleef Al Khawaldeh said nearly 60 per cent of the complaints were against the level of services provided by seven organisations: The Greater Amman Municipality, the Municipal Affairs Ministry, the Water Authority of Jordan, the Social Security Corporation, the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology, the Health Ministry, and the Income and Sales Tax Department.

Highlighting the importance of the report, as it will enable agencies to identify flaws and address them to ensure public satisfaction, Khawaldeh noted that the report seeks to enhance accountability and evaluate the performance of public sector agencies.

The minister said 41 per cent of the complaints were made by Amman residents, down from 45 per cent of the complaints registered in the first quarter of this year.

He noted that most of the complaints in the March-June period were over shortages in teaching staff at public schools, water supply disruptions, damage to water networks, violations related to fuel gauges, quality of petrol at gas stations, and a dearth of medical staff and equipment.

People can call the specialised government unit that receives public feedback on 06/5008080 to lodge their complaints against public agencies, the statement said.
