AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received a US congressional delegation at Al Husseiniya Palace, headed by Chairman of the US House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Mark Takano.
The meeting covered the historic ties and the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, as well as means of expanding cooperation across all fields, according to a Royal Court statement.
King Abdullah expressed Jordan’s appreciation of the support provided by the United States and its Congress in a number of sectors, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation and maintaining coordination on issues of mutual concern in service of both countries.
The meeting also covered the latest regional and international developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, with His Majesty emphasising the need to step up efforts to reach just and comprehensive peace, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4 , 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Discussions touched on means of finding political solutions to regional and international crises and efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
The congressional delegation lauded the deep-rooted Jordanian-US ties, underscoring Jordan’s pivotal role in bolstering security and stability in the region, and commending the Kingdom’s efforts in hosting refugees.
Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Henry Wooster attended the meeting.
