AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan on Wednesday highlighted the significance of the Prophet Mohammad's birthday as an occasion to reflect on his spiritual, religious, ethical and humanitarian messages.
Kanaan further stressed that the Jerusalemites view the celebration of the birthday of Prophet Mohammad as an opportunity to strengthen their resilience in the holy land of Al Israa and Al Miraj, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
This year, the commemoration of this noble occasion coincides with the anniversary of the Al Aqsa Intifada (the second Palestinian uprising), which erupted on 28 September 2000, he noted.
During this uprising, 4,412 Palestinians lost their lives and 48,322 were wounded as a result of the provocative entry of the then Israeli Prime Minister Sharon into the Al Aqsa Mosque, which set a dangerous precedent for changing the historical status quo.
He added "the protection of Jerusalem is guided by the teachings of Islam and the message of Prophet Mohammad, may peace be upon him".
