Sunday a public holiday to mark new Hijri year

AMMAN — On the occasion of the lunar New Year, according to the Islamic Hijri calendar, ministries and public departments will observe a holiday on October 2, Prime Minister Hani Mulki announced in a communiqué on Monday.
The first month of the Hijri year is Muharram. The new year marks 1438 lunar years since Prophet Mohammad's migration from Mecca to Medina, known as "hijra".
