AMMAN — South African Ambassador to Jordan John Davies on Thursday described the trade volume between his nation and Jordan as modest, noting that the two countries will be working to boost it.
During a visit to The Jordan Times, Davies said his country is keen to help the Kingdom improve trade exchange and cooperation in various spheres with other African states, particularly since Jordan’s only embassy in non-Arab Africa is in South Africa.
The ambassador added that there is a need to raise awareness of Africa and African issues in the Jordanian media as a step towards enhanced ties in other fields.
South Africa, he said, appreciates and supports Jordan’s role in attempting to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks as well as a stabilising force in the region.
The ambassador also offered condolences to the Jordanian people over the death of air force pilot Muath Kasasbeh, who was burned alive by the Daesh terrorist group last month, reiterating his government’s condemnation of the gruesome crime.
South Africa issued a statement on Thursday condemning “in the strongest possible terms the barbaric and gruesome murder of the Jordanian pilot… by the extremist terror group.”
“The South Africa Government condemns all forms and manner of terrorism. We believe that terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned,” the statement said.
