AMMAN — The Lower House Palestine Committee, in partnership with the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA),  on Sunday announced the launch of an international campaign to support the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The announcement was made during a committee meeting with figures from the PCPA, including deputy Secretary-General Hisham Abu Mahfouth, Sari Zuaiter and Ziad Aloul, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The meeting went over the latest developments and current conditions in Jerusalem, as well as means to support the Hashemite custodianship and face the Israeli Judaisation policy of Jerusalem’s holy sites.

Head of the committee MP Fayez Basbous said that the actions of the extremist, right-wing Israeli government clearly target Palestinians and the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites. The latest action of the extremist government was the Israeli national security minister’s trespass into the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif.

Basbous stressed Jordan’s unaltered stance towards the Palestinian cause and the Kingdom’s support for all rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of coordination, consultation and intensifying efforts to serve the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship.

The international campaign will have media and political dimensions that focus on supporting the Hashemite Custodianship and His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts in this regard at international events, with the goal of buttressing the steadfastness of Jerusalemites, he said.

The lawmaker added that the campaign will also include activities and events at the local and international levels in coordination with Palestinian institutions and communities abroad.

Other members of the committee stressed the significance of joining efforts to support the Palestinian cause through drawing the attention of the media to the magnitude of suffering endured by the Palestinians, with an aim to gain support for the cause.

Abu Mahfouth said that Jordan’s leadership, government and people play a major role in supporting the Palestinian cause, noting that the primary objective is to bring into fruition a national project that enhances Palestinians’ rights and ensures the right of return.

The conference supports the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem as well as His Majesty’s positions on these issues, pointing out that the joint campaign with the Palestine Committee will directly support King Abdullah’s efforts as well as the Hashemite Custodianship, he said.

He also reiterated the importance of supporting the Kingdom and the Hashemite Custodianship in the media at international events to counter Israeli practices that seek to impose control over Al Aqsa and Jerusalem.

Zuaiter and Aloul said that the Hashemite Custodianship is the first line of defence for the Palestinian cause, calling on the international community to support His Majesty’s efforts in preserving the holy sites.
