AMMAN — The Lower House is scheduled to meet on Monday to discuss the Israeli occupation forces’ break-ins and violations against Al Aqsa Mosque.

Senate President Faisal Fayez on Thursday condemned the break-ins by extremist Israeli settlers on the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque, noting that such practices will escalate regional conflict and fuel violence, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Israel’s actions against Muslim and Christian holy sites and the Palestinian people “is a form of state terrorism that must be firmly faced by the international community”, Fayez said, noting that Israel must be held accountable for these violations.

He highlighted the Senate’s “complete” support for His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts in defending Jerusalem’s Arab identity and the resilience of its people and his stance against the occupation’s plans to alter the status quo of Al Aqsa Mosque.

Jordan’s efforts to protect the status quo in Jerusalem are in sync with its historic and religious role to protect the city and the Hashemite Custodianship over its holy sites, Fayez underlined.

The Senate president called on the international community and the UN to play their ethical, humanitarian and legal roles in shouldering the responsibility of protecting Jerusalem’s holy sites and pressuring Israel to cease its continuous violations, according to Petra.

Also on Thursday, the Lower House’s Palestine Committee said that Jordan has the “final say” on all matters relating to Jerusalem, reiterating the significance of Hashemite Custodianship over Al Aqsa and hailing His Majesty King Abdullah’s stances on the Palestinian cause and the holy city’s sites.
