Hot air mass to prevail over weekend

AMMAN — High temperatures are forecast for the weekend as the Kingdom remains under the impact of a hot air mass, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.

The hot air mass started affecting the country on Tuesday and has pushed temperatures up to 4oC above the annual average of 32ºC for this time of the year in Amman, JMD meteorologist Raed Rafed said.

“Temperatures on Friday and Saturday will be slightly higher and will drop on Sunday, but the weather will be relatively hot and temperatures will be higher than the annual average for this time of the year,” Rafed told The Jordan Times.

Very hot weather is forecast in the Jordan Valley, Aqaba and the Dead Sea on Friday, while it will be hot in the rest of the Kingdom. 

Temperatures are expected to reach 36ºC during the day in Amman, dropping to 25ºC at night. Winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times, raising dust, according to the JMD.

Similar conditions are expected on Saturday, with temperatures in the Jordan Valley, Aqaba and the Dead Sea areas forecast to rise above their annual average of 39ºC. 

In Amman, temperatures on Saturday will be 36ºC during the day, dropping to 25ºC at night, and winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times, raising dust, according to the JMD.

“A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Sunday, but the weather will be relatively hot in different parts of the Kingdom and hot in the Jordan Valley, Aqaba and the Dead Sea,” Rafed said.

Daytime temperatures on Sunday will be 34ºC, dropping to 24ºC by nightfall in the capital, and winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk, raising dust in the eastern and southern regions, according to the JMD.
