AMMAN — The heatwave that has affected the country since Monday will continue until next Sunday, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.
“A hot air mass accompanied by a seasonal Indian depression caused the heatwave, which will peak on Saturday and subside on Sunday night,” JMD meteorologist Laila Shaheen told The Jordan Times.
The weather on Friday will be hot and dry across the country and very hot at the Dead Sea, the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, while temperatures will be 36ºC during the day, dropping to 25ºC at night in Amman, and winds will be northwesterly moderate.
A slight rise in temperatures is forecast for Saturday, Shaheen said, noting that the weather will be hot and dry across the country and very hot at the Dead Sea, the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, where temperatures will be 44ºC during the day.
“Temperatures on Saturday will be seven degrees above the annual average of 31.3ºC for this time of the year,” she noted.
Daytime temperatures in Amman will be 38ºC and winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times, raising dust in the badia.
A slight drop in temperatures is forecast for Sunday, but the weather will remain hot and dry across the country and temperatures will be six degrees above the annual average for this time of the year.
Temperatures during the day will be 37ºC, according to the JMD, which indicated that winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times, raising dust in the badia.
“The impact of the heatwave is forecast to subside by Monday, when temperatures will drop back to their annual average during this time as a moderate air mass will start prevailing,” the department said on its Facebook page.
