AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Saturday stressed the importance of attracting development projects to create jobs for Jordanians, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Chairing a meeting for the Investment Council at the Jordan Investment Commission (JIC), Mulki instructed officials to conduct a study within three months on investment efforts, and sectors and projects of priority to be showcased to the JIC.

The premier also highlighted the importance of investing in regional and international conferences that Jordan is scheduled to host in the upcoming period in order to attract investments, especially in the Arab summit and the World Economic Forum meeting.

The premier issued directives to hold semi-monthly meetings for the Higher Regulatory Council and the regulation department at the Greater Amman Municipality with the JIC to facilitate measures related to regulatory approvals for investors.

As for the agreements on development areas and free zones, the prime minister instructed the Investment Council to move the administrations of development companies concerned with free and development zones to the field in the targeted governorates, which would contribute to accelerating the pace of work and seek solutions for challenges that may hinder its progress.

The council was briefed by JIC President Thabet Elwir on the commission’s role in improving the investment climate in the Kingdom.

Elwir said the commission will implement a strategic work plan to promote investments inside and outside Jordan, which he said was adopted by the Cabinet recently and will continue for three years.

Also during the meeting, the Investment Council approved several projects and referred them to the Cabinet for further approval measures, Petra reported.
