Cypriot parliament president pledges support to Jordan

AMMAN — Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani, who is acting foreign minister, met on Wednesday with Yiannakis Omirou, president of the Cypriot parliament, to discuss the latest regional developments.
Momani called for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, highlighting the repercussions of hosting great numbers of Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Omirou reiterated his country’s support for the Kingdom in its efforts to overcome challenges related to energy and pledged to assist Jordan in hosting the refugees.
Also on Wednesday, Omirou visited the Citadel in Amman’s Jabal Al Qalaa neighbourhood.

A parliamentary delegation, headed by Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, on Wednesday left for Cyprus for a several-day official visit in response to an invitation from Yiannakis Omirou, the speaker of the Cyprus house of representatives.
Jordan is keen on developing its relations with Cyprus, which it sees as an important partner, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said on Thursday.
Lower House speaker Atef Tarawneh and Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan Charalambos Hadjisavvas on Monday discussed ways to boost relations and reviewed the latest regional developments.
