97 COVID-19 deaths, 7,940 infections recorded Monday

AMMAN — Ninety-seven COVID-19 deaths and 7,940 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 597,256, the government announced.
The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 6,651 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.
The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 16.21 per cent, compared with 16.47 per cent reported on Sunday.
A total of 48,980 virus tests were also conducted on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,825,666, according to the statement.
The statement added that 8,910 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Monday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 494,417.
The statement added that there are currently 96,188 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.
A total of 432 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Monday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,383, the statement said, adding that 382 recovered patients left hospitals.
On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 51 per cent, ICU beds reached 75 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 42 per cent.
In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 71 per cent, 82 per cent for ICUs and 47 per cent for ventilators.
The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 36 per cent, 39 per cent for ICUs and 23 per cent for ventilators.
The cases comprised 3,549 infections in Amman, 791 in Irbid, including seven in Ramtha District, 468 in Balqa, 1,196 in Zarqa, 187 in Madaba, 294 in Aqaba, 301 in Mafraq, 226 in Jerash, 271 in Ajloun, 335 in Karak, 193 in Tafileh and 129 in Maan, including 10 cases in Petra District.
