21 COVID deaths, 8,234 virus cases recorded Monday

AMMAN — Twenty-one COVID-19 deaths and 8,234 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 1,631,708, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 13,835, according to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at 20.76 per cent.

A total of 39,667 virus tests were also conducted on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 16,285,726, according to the statement.

The statement added that 7,064 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Monday, making the total number of recoveries to stand at 1,535,778 after finishing the 10-day quarantine period.

The statement added that there are currently 82,095 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 98 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Monday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 713, the statement said, adding that 142 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 11 per cent, ICU beds reached 29 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 8 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 17 per cent, 31 per cent for ICUs and 13 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 8 per cent, 19 per cent for ICUs and 13 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 3,504 infections in Amman, 1,222 in Irbid, 889 in Zarqa, 752 in Balqa, 372 in Karak, 270 in Mafraq, 235 in Jerash, 235 in Madaba, 205 in Aqaba, 176 in Tafileh, 155 in Ajloun, 126 in Ramtha District, 50 in Maan and 43 in Petra District.

The statement added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,684,728, while 4,372,388 have received their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,940,145.
