AMMAN — Party affiliation following the approval of the Political Parties Law reached 60,000 citizens who have joined 30 political parties, against 22,000 citizens belonged to 54 parties before the law was passed, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Haditha Khraisha said on Wednesday.

During a meeting at the Lower House's Committee of Rural and Badia Affairs, Khraisha confirmed the parties' readiness to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections and to present their programmes, noting that the political arena has witnessed the establishment of new parties over the past two years, due to citizens' confidence in the effectiveness of the law in enhancing and activating political life.

He also highlighted the ministry's efforts towards raising awareness about the electoral and political party laws through various meetings across the Kingdom, and presented the results of these meetings to the Cabinet.

A ministerial committee has been formed to monitor the political reform process, and higher education institutions have amended the social studies course, which started in the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, he added.

He also said that there are still two governorates with very low party affiliation rates, stressing the government's commitment to improving services in rural and Badia regions and addressing the needs of residents to curb migration.

Emphasising Jordan's respect for diversity, the minister said that the distinctive feature of the coming phase is the allocation of 41 seats in the Lower House to political parties, noting that the number will increase to 50 per cent in the next round and then to 65 per cent for candidates from party lists, according o the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
