AMMAN — Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Haditha Khraisha on Sunday said that ideological parties form a powerful parliamentary body capable of fulfiling its constitutional duties through oversight and legislation.

Khraisha emphasised, during a session at Isra University on Sunday, that the current political party law provides adequate guarantees to protect party members, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister also urged citizens to actively participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, emphasising electoral participation as a national and constitutional duty.

He also highlighted the increasing affiliation with political parties in the past two years, signifying a growing awareness of the importance of party life and programmatic political work among citizens.

Khraisha also stressed that the Ministry of Political Affairs aims to educate and raise awareness among citizens, emphasising that the decision to join a party ultimately rests with the individual.

He also presented legislative provisions that offer clear opportunities for youth and women to establish parties and secure representation in the Parliament.

The laws have increased the women’s quota to 18 out of 97 seats on the local list, with parties initially allocated 41 seats, increasing to 50 per cent in subsequent elections and eventually reaching 65 per cent of total seats for parties. The minister also referred to Royal directives and a vision to encourage engagement in party life, echoing the statement of His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein in various meetings and speeches, Petra reported.
