‘100 Syrian refugees cross into Jordan in two days’

AMMAN — Border Guards received 100 Syrian refugees during the past 48 hours, a military source said Wednesday. The Border Guards transferred the refugees to shelters and camps, the source added. Royal Medical Services cadres treated the injured, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

 

 

Tawjihi winter session concludes without incidents — Thneibat

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat said the winter session of General Secondary Certificate Examination (Tawjihi), which concluded on Wednesday, went smoothly.

He commended students’ and parents’ high sense of awareness and their compliance with regulations.

In a statement following the conclusion of the exams, Thneibat thanked all national institutions that supported the ministry during the exam as well as the various media outlets. Around 114,096 students from the different academic and vocational branches sat for Wednesday’s examination, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

 

 

Ministry starts pre-qualification process for Irbid hospital, BRT projects

AMMAN — The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has started with the pre-qualification process for contractors bidding to implement the Princess Basma Hospital project and the Amman-Zarqa Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halaseh said on Wednesday.

According to a ministry statement,  the ministry received 13 requests from Jordanian and Saudi consortiums for the Irbid-based hospital project, valued at around JD50 million, to be financed by the Saudi Fund for Development. For the BRT project, which will be financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the ministry received requests from 14 Kuwaiti-Jordanian consortiums, the minister said.

Wir appointed investment commission president

AMMAN — The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved appointing Thabet Al Wir as president of the Jordan Investment Commission, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Wir replaces Montaser Oklah, who has been appointed as an ambassador at the Foreign Ministry.

 

 

10 diagnosed with H1N1 flu being treated at Irbid hospital

AMMAN — The number of patients diagnosed with H1N1 flu (swine flu) who have been admitted to King Abdullah I University Hospital in Irbid reached 10 on Wednesday, according to the hospital director, Ibrahim Bani Hani.

They are currently undergoing treatment, he said. In the past two months, five H1N1-related deaths were registered, Bani Hani added, noting that it is easier to overcome the infection when it is dealt with at its early stages, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

 

 

Senate president praises Jordanian expatriates

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Tuesday commended Jordanian expatriates’ role in serving the Kingdom and contributing to its economy by increasing their investments to enable it to face regional challenges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking at a meeting with expatriates in the UAE, Fayez commended Jordanian-Gulf relations, stressing the importance of renewing the Gulf Cooperation Council grant to enable Jordan to face economic challenges.

 

 

Cairo field hospital receives 4,230 patients

AMMAN — The Jordanian field hospital in Cairo, dubbed “Egypt 14”, has received 4,230 patients since it started its work four weeks ago, Hospital Director Brig. Gen. Bassem Momani said Wednesday.

He added that the hospital, based in Cairo’s Shorouk city, seeks to help Egyptian medical institutions present necessary healthcare to citizens, according to a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army statement.

 

 

Hammad inaugurates gendarmerie warehouses in Muwaqqar

AMMAN — Interior Minister Salameh Hammad on Wednesday inaugurated a sewing shop and warehouses of the Gendarmerie Department in Muwaqqqar. 

The establishment of these units will meet the department’s needs and will provide more jobs for Jordanians, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh, Civil Defence Department Director Lt. Gen. Talal Kofahi and Public Security Department Director Maj. Gen. Atef Saudi were present at the inauguration ceremony.

 

 

‘MP Lozi receiving treatment at cancer centre’

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Wednesday said MP Mariam Lozi is in fair condition and is still receiving medical treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Centre. He added that Lozi’s doctors stressed that she is recovering, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

 

Revamped Juweideh correctional centre opens

AMMAN — Public Security Department (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Atef Saudi on Wednesday inaugurated the revamped Juweideh Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre.

The improvements came as part of the PSD’s keenness to meet international standards at the oldest centre in the Kingdom, Saudi said in a PSD statement.

The centre can now accommodate up to 1,600 inmates, and has a garden to receive inmates’ guests and families, he said. Saudi noted that the centre will resume receiving inmates as of Thursday.
