AMMAN — In support of the Palestinian people in Gaza and in protest of the continuous Israeli assault and the intense hostile assaults against the Palestinian people in the Strip, a solidarity march was started from the Al Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman following Friday prayer.

The march's participants denounced the worldwide silence and double standards on this aggression, as well as the double standards in handling this war and its aftermath, and demanded that the Arab world and the international community take effective action against the heinous aggression, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The participants urged the international human rights organisations to speak out in favour of the truth and Palestinian rights, applauding Jordan's stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, to halt the war on Gaza.

They stressed that what the Israeli occupation forces are doing is completely contrary to international norms, traditions, laws, and human rights values.

The participants also stressed the need to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza and open the crossings to allow urgent humanitarian aid to enter the Strip.

AMMAN — Minister of Government Communications Mohammed Momani on Saturday highlighted the vital role of the national media in strengthening the Jordanian state.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, stressed media's importance in defending the Kingdom against various challenges, while fulfilling its "crucial duty" of providing accurate information and facts to the public, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of public and local radio stations, the minister pledged to provide all possible resources to improve the national media landscape.

The meeting falls within the ministry's ongoing series of interactive sessions with various media sectors to engage in a constructive dialogue on the state of the national media and address the challenges it faces.

He explained that the next step, following consultations with various media sectors, would be the formation of specialised working groups for each media sector to develop practical recommendations and solutions to improve the working environment, focusing on digital content development and addressing key challenges within each sector.

Any improvements in the media industry must be in line with the state's modernisation efforts, which include political, economic and administrative reforms, the minister noted.

He acknowledged that the production of traditional media content differs significantly from digital content, noting that the fast-paced technological age demands fast, accurate and efficient methods of information delivery.

Momani listened to feedback from attendees who emphasised the need for faster digital content production that differs from traditional formats.

They called for boosting the role of media spokespersons in ministries and government institutions to ensure smoother communication and efficient flow of information, especially for live service programmes and morning broadcasts.

They also urged coordinated efforts to improve the quality of media output, enhance information dissemination and promote the development of digital media within official media institutions.

Jordan's wheat reserves sufficient for 10 months, prices stable

The ministry seeks to expand storage facilities as part of its strategy to increase the Kingdom's capacity to store both wheat and barley (File photo)

AMMAN — Jordan's current wheat reserves are sufficient to meet the Kingdom's local consumption needs for the next 10 months, according to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.

Ministry Spokesperson Yanal Barmawi said that Jordan consumes about 90,000 tonnes of wheat and 52,000 tonnes of blended flour for bread production every month, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

To ensure continuous supply, the ministry regularly holds tenders to purchase additional wheat and boost national reserves to meet local demand, he noted.

Barmawi also said that the ministry seeks to expand storage facilities as part of its strategy to increase the Kingdom's capacity to store both wheat and barley.

Flour prices have experienced periodic fluctuations, mainly due to adjustments in fuel prices, especially diesel. These changes are aimed at stabilising bread prices for consumers, Petra said.

Since 2018, the government has kept bread prices fixed at JD0.32 for large flat breads, JD0.40 for small flat breads, and JD0.35 for taboon and mashrouh.

Any increase in the price of blended wheat flour does not affect the cost of bread for consumers. This is part of a monthly review process by the ministry to adjust bread production costs based on changes in fuel prices, with flour prices rising when diesel prices fall and vice versa, Petra added.
