AMMAN —  President of the Jordanian Free Zones Investors Association (JFZIA) Mohammed Bostanji on Sunday announced the customs clearance of 46,359 vehicles during the first 10 months of 2021 at the Zarqa Free Zone.

Hybrid vehicles accounted for 35 per cent of the total vehicles cleared for the local market during the same period, amounting to 16,177 vehicles, he noted.

He pointed out that 16,730 petrol engine vehicles and 9,176 diesel engine vehicles were cleared, while 4,276 electric vehicles were recorded during the same period, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

He noted that 39,983 vehicles were re-exported during January 1 to October 31, 2021.

Zarqa Free Zone witnessed an increased clearance of hybrid vehicles especially during June 2021 until now, due to the reopening of all sectors and the government’s intention to raise the tax to 55 per cent.

He stressed that this growth will be followed by a clear decline at the beginning of 2022 once the tax-raising decision comes into effect.

He called on the government to reconsider its hybrid-cars decision in a way that serves the interests of all parties.
