Water storage in Kingdom's dams at 32.4%

AMMAN — The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) on Monday said that the amount of water stored in the Kingdom’s dams as of Monday morning reached 90.977 million cubic metres (mcm), accounting for 32.4 per cent of the total dam storage of 280.760mcm.

Dam storage on this day last year amounted to 35.68 per cent of the total storage, JVA said in a statement, noting that the recent weather conditions channeled 4.4mcm of water into dams.

The authority said that the dams’ storage rates of water for drinking and irrigation purposes are low, where Al Wihdah dam storage stands at 16.6 per cent of the total storage of 110mcm, Al Mujib dam at 3.3 per cent and Al Waleh dam at 13.2 per cent of the total storage.

As for dams for irrigation, the King Talal dam has 46.7mcm of water reaching a storage rate of 69.7 per cent and Wadi Al Arab dam has 8.7mcm with a storage rate of 52 per cent.
