Water network inaugurated in south Amman

AMMAN — A newly constructed water network was inaugurated on Monday at Baselleyah and Shahbaa mixed primary school in Jeezeh, south of Amman. The water network was part of a  project titled “Multi-sectoral response to assist the most vulnerable children and youth and strengthen social cohesion in Jordan”, funded by a grant from Japan to UNICEF, according to an embassy statement.

In 2017, Japan extended a grant totalling $2,181,049 to UNICEF, according to the statement. The inauguration ceremony  was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Shuichi Sakurai; Iyad Dahiyat, secretary general for Ministry of Water and Irrigation; Salem Shreideh, director of education at the Ministry of Education and Robert Jenkins, representative of UNICEF Jordan.

The overall objective of the project is to provide emergency assistance to the most vulnerable children and youth in Jordan through the interventions in the field of health and nutrition, youth training and engagement, and water and sanitation and hygiene, the statement read. Through the construction of new water network, more than 150 households, and three public schools will have access to the clean water.
