Water Ministry, Germany sign JD18.7m agreements

AMMAN — The Water Ministry on Wednesday signed agreements worth JD18.7 million with the German Development Bank (KfW) to implement projects to raise the energy efficiency at the Water Authority of Jordan’s wells and rehabilitate water networks in Zarqa’s Ghweirieh area.
KfW will provide a soft loan of JD16.121 million, representing 80 per cent of the total cost of well rehabilitation projects, while the remaining 20 per cent will be secured from the authority’s budget, said Water Minister Hazem Nasser.
As for the rehabilitation of Ghweirieh water network, the KfW will supply the project with JD2.7 million, 90 per cent of the total cost, to improve water provision and replace the old network, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
