AMMAN — United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and CARE International have signed an agreement to implement a project titled “United and Empowered to Fight Child Marriage”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The project, in which UNFPA is partnering with UNHCR and UNICEF, aims to implement more sports, artistic, cultural and recreational activities for girls and their families to consolidate relationships and strengthen family ties.
The project will target the Ain Al Basha area before expanding to other areas. “Reducing early marriage is one of the top priorities of the organisation to ensure the right of girls to enjoy a decent and secure life,” said Salam Kanaan, country director of CARE International in Jordan.
