Transport minister, Egyptian counterpart discuss cooperation

AMMAN — Transport Minister Wajih Azaizeh and Egyptian counterpart Kamel Wazir on Tuesday discussed ways to increase cooperation over various modes of transportation.
Speaking during the meeting held on the sidelines of the Red Sea Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (RSMTL) and Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee meetings, Azaizeh mentioned that one of the Jordan's Ministry of Transport’s “key interests” is to increase cooperation with its Egyptian counterpart, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister lauded the "remarkable" development in Egypt's transport sector, commending the "positive and constructive" Egyptian cooperation in aspects related to facilitating passenger and goods movements between the countries.
The Egyptian minister highlighted the "deep-rooted, historic" relations and "fruitful" cooperation in various fields, including in the transport sector.
He stressed that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport deploys all of its efforts to serve the relevant Jordanian authorities.
Discussions were also held over cooperation in the railway field, as Azaizeh invited a delegation of engineers from Egyptian National Railways (ENR) to visit Jordan to help develop the railway line (which extends from Zarqa to Amman to Queen Alia International Airport) and prepare an integrated technical study on the development plan, the statement added.
In addition, the sides noted that the Arab Bridge Maritime Company, owned by Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, represents a "pioneering" model for cooperation between Arab countries in the transport field, and has a "major" role in promoting inter-Arab trade and increasing the volume of Arab, Asian and African trade exchanges.
