AMMAN — Jordan, with a strategic view based on Arab economic integration, looks forward to enhancing pan-Arab cooperation, Minister of Transport Wajih Azaizeh said on Tuesday.
Azaizeh’s remarks were made during the 34th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers, during which Jordan was re-elected as a member of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers for a period of two years, 2022-2023.
During the Cairo-held meeting, Azaizeh emphasised that the transport industry is the backbone of national economies, so economic integration is essential for the sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Highlighting the importance of the meeting's agenda, the minister noted that the meetings have coincided with the world’s endeavors to address the pandemic’s repercussions.
He underlined the need for emergency plans related to the various transport sectors, as well as called for measures to facilitate mobility and transit procedures and remove all barriers among Arab countries.
On the sidelines of the conference, Azaizeh met his Saudi counterpart Saleh Bin Nasser Al Jasser over enhancing the Jordanian-Saudi cooperation in the field of transport.
Talks went over the need to continue contact and consultation to identify the sector's challenges, and work jointly to reach a "sustainable" transport system in service of the two kingdoms’ economic interests.
