AMMAN — The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply on Sunday said it had issued 250 fines against shops and fined a tobacco company for reducing supply to the market.

Fines were issued for raising the prices of cigarettes, soft drinks and Internet services, as well as stockpiling prior to applying a Cabinet decision to increase taxes on these items and services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Ministry Spokesperson Yanal Barmawi said penalties can reach up to JD3,000 in fines and six months imprisonment, and can be increased for repeat offenders.
