AMMAN — Tkiyet Um Ali,  a non-profit organisation providing food support to vulnerable Jordanian communities, launched its Ramadan campaign, titled “Your Zakat Completes the Equation of Goodness” on Sunday.

The charity campaign is intended to garner Zakat donations for Tkiyet Um Ali’s Zakat programme, which is used to support its monthly food parcel programme. The charity has received a fatwa from the Ifta Department in support of the initiative, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

According to a statement from the charity, the campaign aims to shed light on sustainable support for the 20,000 families that benefit from the charity’s food parcel programme across the Kingdom.

The organisation supports these families during Ramadan and throughout the year, providing them with monthly food parcels containing 19 food items sufficient for Iftar (the fast-breaking meal at sunset) and Suhour (pre-dawn meal) during Ramadan. The remainder of the year, the parcels contain sufficient quantities of food for three meals per day.

Those interested can donate through by dialing 064900900, visiting the organisation’s website at www.tua.jo, downloading the smart phone application “TUA”, or visiting Tkiyet Um Ali’s branches at commercial centres.

According to Islamic law, or Sharia, Zakat is a tax that requires donating 2.5 per cent of a Muslim individual’s cash, gold, silver, cattle, farms and rentable assets to charity. Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam.
