Temperatures to rise above average on Thursday — JMD

AMMAN — Fair weather is forecast across the Kingdom on Tuesday and Wednesday, after which a relatively hot air mass is forecast to take effect on Thursday, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said Monday.

On Tuesday, fair weather is expected in desert and hilly areas, while it will be relatively hot in the Jordan Valley, JMD Director General Mohammad Samawi told The Jordan Times.

Winds will be northwesterly moderate, turning brisk in the afternoon, the meteorologist said, noting that it will be relatively hot in Aqaba during the day, and fair at night, with northerly moderate winds and calm seas.

“The JMD warns of low visibility on Tuesday as a result of dust, especially in desert areas,” Samawi added.

Temperatures in Amman will range between 28ºC during the day and 16ºC at night; the maximum in the Jordan Valley will reach 36ºC, dropping to 23ºC; and in Aqaba, mercury levels are expected to range between a high of 38ºC and a low of 24ºC, he noted.

“A slight increase in temperatures is forecast for Wednesday, with fair conditions in most areas of the Kingdom, and relatively hot weather in the desert,” the meteorologist said, adding that it will be hot in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.

Winds will be northwesterly moderate, turning to brisk in the afternoon, while mercury levels in the capital will reach a high of 31ºC and drop to a low of 19ºC, according to Samawi.

On Thursday, another slight rise in temperatures is expected, to two or three degrees above their annual average of 31ºC for this time of year, the JMD director general said.

“It will be relatively hot in most parts of the Kingdom, with hot weather conditions expected to prevail in the desert, the Jordan Valley and Aqaba,” Samawi added. 

The warning of low visibility due to dust in the desert also applies for Thursday, according to the JMD.

The capital will register a maximum temperature of 33ºC during the day, which will drop to a minimum 20ºC at night, while winds will be northwesterly moderate.
