Hot weather forecast for weekend — meteorologist

AMMAN — The country will be affected on Friday by a hot air mass expected to push temperatures five degrees above their annual average for this time of the year, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.

The hot air mass, originating from the Sinai desert, will affect the country Friday and taper off Saturday night, according to the JMD.

“Temperatures on Friday will be 4-5 degrees above their annual average during this time of the year of 28°C,” a JMD meteorologist said.

Friday’s weather will be hot in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba and relatively hot in the rest of the country, the JMD said, expecting winds to be southeasterly moderate, turning to southwesterly in the afternoon.

Temperatures will range between a high of 33°C during the day and a low of 20°C at night in Amman, the weather forecaster said.

A slight drop in temperatures is forecast on Saturday, but the Kingdom will remain under the impact of the hot air mass as mercury levels will be four degrees above their annual average.

The weather on Saturday will be fair and hot to relatively hot in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, while temperatures will range between a maximum of 32°C and a minimum of 19°C at nighttime in Amman. 

Winds will be southwesterly to northwesterly moderate to brisk, raising dust in the south and east of the Kingdom.

“Starting Saturday night, the impact of the hot air mass will ease off and temperatures will start dropping back to their annual average for this time of the year,” the meteorologist said.

A notable drop in temperatures is expected on Sunday, with mercury levels ranging between a high of 26°C and a low of 16°C at night in the capital. Winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk in the afternoon, raising dust, according to the department.
