AMMAN — A wastewater tanker that leaked its contents on Amman's streets has been seized and its driver referred to a police station awaiting the proper legal measures, according to a Water Ministry statement sent to The Jordan Times on Saturday.

In the statement, the ministry said that teams from the Royal Department for Environmental Protection (Rangers) seized the tank in cooperation with the Public Security Department’s main operations and control centre.

The ministry stressed its continuous efforts under its campaign to preserve the environment and water resources, urging all citizens to cooperate to detect such violations, which it said could endanger public health and contaminate water resources.

The ministry urged the public to contact the unified complaints number 117116 to report any issues, assuring that it will show “no leniency” in dealing with violations that endanger the quality of water.

Earlier in December, ministry cadres, in cooperation with concerned authorities, detained a water tanker driver and seized his truck for allegedly filling the tanker with contaminated water unfit for human consumption.

At the time, the ministry said that it detained the driver and sent him to the police department in Bayader Wadi Seer in cooperation with the Rangers, referring the case to the judiciary.
