AMMAN — A man wanted in a drug-related case died of injuries sustained during a security raid in Ajloun, the Spokesperson of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said on Wednesday.
Security agents had gathered information of the wanted person in a drug trafficking and promotion case.
The suspect fired at security patrols trying to arrest him in Ajloun on Wednesday at dawn, the spokesperson said, as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The suspect was then tracked down while attempting to escape in a medical vehicle, accompanied by other wanted suspects who attempted to help him escape, the PSD official added.
When police pulled the vehicle over carrying the wanted people — three other men including the main suspect — fired at police, requiring the security force to apply the rules of engagement, resulting in the injury of the suspect who was caught in possession of an automatic gun used to shoot at the police, the spokesperson added.
The injured suspect was taken to the hospital and died soon, while the other two accomplices fled the scene and a search is underway, he added.
