AMMAN — The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and police in Tafileh have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man in his sixties during a house fire in Tafileh, 180km southwest of Amman.

The police received reports about a fire in a house in Tafileh at dawn on Tuesday, with Civil Defence Department, CID and police personnel at the scene, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

After the blaze was put out, authorities discovered the charred body of the house’s owner and called for forensic investigators to examine the body.

The forensics’ report suggested possible foul play, as the victim seemed to have been stabbed in the neck, prompting the authorities to initiate an investigation into the incident.

This led to the arrest of the suspect, who confessed to stabbing the victim because of arguments between them while he was in the victim’s home.

The victim then reportedly fell onto a heater, which started the fire, with the suspect fleeing the scene, Petra reported.

The case was referred to the prosecutor for further action.
