Suspect arrested ‘trying to infiltrate neighbouring country’ — army

AMMAN — Border Guards on Sunday arrested a foreign national suspected of attempting to enter a neighbouring country illegally, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said on Sunday.

Following the rules of engagement, troops arrested the suspect and referred him to the concerned authorities, a JAF official said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Earlier in July, Border Guards arrested an Israeli who attempted to illegally cross the western border into the Kingdom, a source from JAF said.

No further details were disclosed.

Also this month, frontline troops at the northeastern border foiled an attempt by four Syrians to smuggle a large amount of drugs into the Kingdom from Syria.

They tracked the smugglers and applied the rules of engagement followed in such cases, which led to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of 781,000 Captagon pills and 180 palm-sized sheets of hashish.

Attempts to infiltrate Jordan, especially from the border with Syria, have continued even after JAF declared the northern and northeastern borders sealed military zones following a terror attack that killed seven troops.
