AMMAN — Deputising for Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali on Tuesday inaugurated the 21st Jordan Economic Conference under the title “International conference to finance investment and FinTech”.
Shamali said that the conference’s two themes accord with current efforts to make use of opportunities in the international network to launch projects and harness technology capable of attracting funds, establishing partnerships and launching projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister underlined the government’s commitment to engage the private sector in attracting foreign investments and encouraging Jordanian entrepreneurs.
This, he added, is illustrated through the government’s tri-fold priorities in the Economic Modernisation Vision, which include political, administrative and economic reforms.
He also said that Jordan looks at digital transformation in the economy not only through activating ICT in commercial transactions, but also through utilising modern technology to develop commercial operations and manufacturing processes to reduce fixed and operational costs.
He added that the use of modern technology can lower transport and renewable energy costs.
Shamali added that Public Sector Modernisation Roadmap initiatives provide a view of the government’s aspirations for digital transformation through solutions that maximise efficiency, reduce costs and eliminate administrative burdens through establishing alternative work mechanisms that help the government carry out its responsibilities.
The minister noted that harnessing digital technology for economic growth, job provision and overcoming market challenges can enhance confidence in digital services an option that saves effort and money. However, all of this requires providing the digital infrastructure and an organisational structure suitable for e-commerce, he said.
